Parkinson’s disease: pathogenesis and experimental therapeutics

Overview

Dr. Jeffrey H. Kordower collaborates closely with scientists in VARI’s Center for Neurodegenerative Science to understand Parkinson’s disease pathogenesis and develop novel therapies for the disease. Recently, he has been investigating the “prion-like” transfer of abnormal alpha-synuclein from cell to cell within the brain. His collaborative research program, which is based at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, utilizes insights garnered from this work to design and perform critical preclinical studies, a vital step in translating potential therapies into clinical trials for people with Parkinson’s.
